ΜΗ ΜΕΛΑΝΟΚΥΤΤΑΡΙΚΟΙ ΚΑΡΚΙΝΟΙ ΤΟΥ ΔΕΡΜΑΤΟΣ

Non‑melanoma skin cancers (NMSC) primarily include basal cell carcinoma (BCC) and squamous cell carcinoma (SCC). They are the most common types of skin cancer and typically result from long‑term exposure to ultraviolet radiation, especially in individuals with fair Fitzpatrick skin types I–II.

Basal Cell Carcinoma (BCC) is the most common type of skin cancer. It develops slowly and rarely causes metastases. It often appears as a nodular or ulcerated lesion and is more common in individuals with fair Fitzpatrick skin types I and II.

Squamous Cell Carcinoma (SCC) is also a common skin malignancy. It usually develops on a background of actinic keratosis and has a higher potential for metastasis. It often presents as a firm, rough lesion or an ulceration on the skin or mucous membranes.

Early diagnosis is essential for effective treatment, while prevention through protection from sun exposure plays a crucial role. Diagnosis is made through dermatoscopy followed by a biopsy of the lesion for histological confirmation.

Appropriate surgical removal and reconstruction of the carcinoma then follow. Regular examinations and follow‑up at scheduled intervals according to clinical guidelines are necessary.
